We stayed in Oban for a few days and it was good to be in a town for a change.
I
went shoe shopping for the first time in years. However, sparkly shoes
and Schuh were not on the agenda. I still have my collection of lovely,
pretty shoes but right now I can only look at then in photos. Instead I
went to Mountain Warehouse and bought myself some new walking/boat
trainers. I still got that "new shoe" joy though. Once a shoe lover,
always a shoe lover! Next I'm looking for new wellies for dry beach
dingy landings, as mine have a crack in the rubber and hopefully they
will make me smile too.
The trip up the Sound of Mull was very windy and there was a lot of tide in the entrance to the sound, which I tried to capture in this video.
The wind was strong enough to blow the water waterfall back up the cliff, which Phil caught quite well in his picture.
The weather has been very rainy, but there have been sunny spells which we have made the most of. After a full day of rain in Tobermory the sun arrived just as it was setting, making it look like there was a fire behind the hill.
The wind calmed down a little and we rounded Ardnamurchan Point under spinnaker then spent two days behind the little island of Riska in Loch Moidart, where someone was practising their bag pipes one morning. I know the bag pipes get a lot of bad press, but it was beautiful to hear them carry across the Loch.
We spent an afternoon talking boats with Colin Speedie – the gentleman
who helped us with the process of buying Vagrant and who lives locally,
and listened to yet more bagpipes when we went out for a meal the next
day in Arsaig.
