We have been in Monastir in Tunisia for two weeks and it already feels like home. The marina is just that friendly. There are lots of cruisers here, from many nationalities, and they made us immediately welcome. We were put on the marina, WhatsApp group from day one, and since then we have enjoyed a BBQ each Sunday, yoga in a morning, and beers in an afternoon. We are moving on to Malta tomorrrow and have been able to gain local knowledge from a number of people. We will be sad to say goodbye to our new friends but many will be around in Greece over the summer so it may not be good bye just "au revoir".
Whilst we have been here we have managed to complete a large number of boat jobs. The antenna has been sorted out, so that our AIS and radio are secure for our next trip. I have been up the mast to clean the mainsail track, the stainless has been polished, a glitch in the navigation electronics has been sorted, the sea water ingress into the stern lockers was dealt with, as well as the everyday day jobs of laundry, shopping, boat cleaning and in Phil's case, three days paid work. We have actually got to the bottom of the list we made when we arrived.
We have not have much time for sightseeing but have been to the Ribat here in Monastir and the Bourguiba Mausoleum. The Ribat was the film setting for Life of Brian and Jesus of Nazereth. It was very impressive. The mausoleum is for the founding father of modern Tunisia, who is still very much respected.
It's now time to move on; to say, "farewell" to North Africa and move back into Europe. We have very much enjoyed our time both here and in Mororcco. It has definitely felt different. Our next passage is a 27 hour trip to Malta. There is quite a bit of wind forecast for about 6 hours of the passage but it is decreasing from midnight and should be very calm when we arrive. We shall see!
