Dom's visit to Turkey's Gulf of Gokova

After an early flight to Bodrum I realised I'd forgotten to set up roaming data for my phone. Not a huge  problem as I had remembered that Vagrant would be waiting just east of the castle and half way there from the bus station, Phil called to me from across the street :). Very soon after we set off away from the busy city eastwards to Barbaros Bay.

And a very nice relaxing start to my week away with Phil and Sara.

I had brought along a few different 3D printed parts that Phil had designed and we tried them out over the course of the week. (2 cockpit drain key-catchers, a retaining clip for holding the stove splashback, a bilge alarm switch blocker and a custom extractor fan casing). After a little fettling they all passed their test runs, excellent!

The next day we sailed east up the Gulf of Gokova and called in at Oren where we had a nice evening at a fish restaurant.

We went for a little walk to view some ruins and it was hot! (+40 degrees)

After a Turkish breakfast back at the beach we decided to head to the south to find some cooler air. The sailing was good if a bit rolly! I think the place we stopped at was called Sakli Kotu, a nice little river mouth in the wilds.

I'd brought along a board game called Cyclades with the theme of ancient Greek Gods and mythological creatures, played on a map of the Greek islands. It was quite good and improved once we'd mastered all the rules. I don't think P&S hated it ...I'm not sure they've played it since though :)

The next day we sailed to Sogut. At some point Phil installed some nice 12v magnetic socket/ports in the aft cabins and magnetic connectors on the fans so they can be easily positioned and also a double rope clutch was successfully replaced.

Then it was the weekend already and we visited Cleopatra's beach island with an ancient amphitheatre.

Phil and Sara at a ruined church with Vagrant in the background.

Then we began heading back west and stopped off somewhere at Ali'bar for a rustic bbq.

On Sunday we sailed west to Coekertme where I was taken out for a nice meal at Captain Ibrahim's with plenty of raki. A nice swim to the beach with Sara the next day cleared my head.

Sara made some great salads for lunch during my visit (thanks xx) and a nice potato salad on my last night accompanied by Phil's very nice homemade pizza! We stayed up far too late playing Cyclades...

Then Tuesday morning and it was time to drop me off at Bodrum.

The cockpit drain grids installed and fitting perfectly.

Thanks both for a great relaxing hol xx

  1. Thanks Dom. We always enjoy having you aboard.

We will definitely be playing "sick ladies" soon. Right now we're a little busy dealing with the real thing.
